TOKONAME (常滑) Ceramic handcrafted by Mansuke who is a potter of the traditional and historical kilns in TOKONAME where is most famous place about the beckoning cat in Japan.
The beckoning cat sit down quietly with raising hand and invites. It is originally a mascot only in Japan. The origin is coming from dated back to the Edo era, approximately 150 years ago. It has been loved widely by general public. When various beckoning cats were born from between general public and it went out. Around Southeast Asia, we can see such the beckoning cat nowadays.
